Catered Ski Chalets in Europe
Tourists visiting new places like to take a trip to the local market to see if there are any local crafts they can buy for the home. The holiday decorations are not always quite right but there may be the odd items which fit well amongst all the other bits and pieces brought back from travel overseas. But this aspect of a ski holiday is less important as the ski tourist wants to do one thing – get out on the slopes. Buying those bits and pieces can be done on the days away from the piste, but getting some practice in right away is important. This is especially true for the skier who only has the opportunity to test their skills on real snow and on real mountains just once a year. Spending an evening at the dry ski slope back home is not exactly the same as the real thing.
So with the mountains of Europe beckoning and the catered ski chalets in Andorra booked, the `once a year` skier is keen to get going. There is a great choice when it comes to the perfect location and any seasoned skier will point to all the different places across the continent. Now there even more resorts on the ski map, so whilst there was a tendency to make the trip across central Europe and go for a holiday in one of the ski chalets in Austria, that situation has changed. It is true that the country which brought us William Tell and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is still right up there amongst the best, there are new challenges coming from the former eastern bloc countries. In particular there are ski chalet holidays in Bulgaria which is well worth looking at.
Right up in the north of the continent there are the Scandinavian countries where there is also the choice between the best cross country trails and downhill skiing. That’s not to say there are no cross country routes on Austria, France or Germany, but Scandinavia has a greater history of the sport. So catered ski chalets in Sweden are also on the agenda when deciding where to go and maybe try the cross country version.
When it comes to the family trip then there are few places better than locations like St Moritz, and getting ski chalets in Switzerland will provide everything that is needed for the young skier. There are schools for the youngsters which are extremely well run by people who are used to helping children. The Swiss are pass masters when it comes to teaching the skills of sliding down a mountain on two pieces of carbon fibre, and age seems to make little difference. They are as content teaching skiing with children as they with much older people.
This region is still the heart of the sport in Europe and there are last minute ski deals in Austria which the family should consider as well as Switzerland. Both have their advantages, so they can be compared when looking for the winter ski holiday. Another aspect which has to be considered when selecting the resort, the location and the facilities is the access to good restaurants and the catering side of the trip. There are catered ski chalets which solve that problem with breakfast and an evening meal included in the price.
Of course the skiing season is quite long and there are weather changes which may affect the success of the trip. Getting to a resort with little snow covering is frustrating and can turn out to be a complete waste. So listening to the latest ski weather forecast is important to make sure the location is getting its normal snow fall. That is where the more established locations come to the fore. They will not have become so popular if they had a mix of good and bad years in terms of snow. So the major resorts of Switzerland, France, Italy and Austria will almost certainly be the ones where the snow covering is good and the sport can be practiced to the full every day. Combine this guaranteed weather conditions with the luxury ski chalet chalet and it makes for the perfect ski holiday which will remain in the memory for ever …. or at least unit next year!
